Through imagery of a grotesque body and through symbolism of industrial materials, this piece reveals a visceral connection between a damaged body and mutilated environment. This is a result of man’s irresponsible material usage through the ongoing construction and deconstruction of our built environment. By using construction materials such as concrete, ceramic, steel and plastic, I have developed a physical language that expresses the grotesque and sickly qualities of material itself. In return I hope to elicit human empathy and understanding of materiality through the sensate and corporeal structures.
